Four Types of Game Designers
Game design is a complex process that requires a variety of skills and knowledge. In order to be successful, game designers must have a good understanding of the game development process, the target audience, and the technology available.
In his book, “Game Design Theory: A New Philosophy for Understanding Games,” game designer Jesse Schell has a theory that there are four different types of game designers: Visionaries, Salesmen, Empaths and Analysts. For designers, they don’t have things like demo reels or practical programming experience.
Visionaries
Visionaries are the game designers who come up with the ideas for the game. They are the ones who create the concept and the vision for the game. They are the ones who come up with the ideas for the game mechanics, the story, the characters, and the overall design of the game.
Salesmen
Salesmen are the game designers who are responsible for selling the game. They are the ones who are responsible for marketing the game, getting it into stores, and convincing people to buy it. They are the ones who are responsible for getting the game into the hands of the players.
Empaths
Empaths are the game designers who are responsible for understanding the players. They are the ones who are responsible for understanding the players’ needs and desires, and for creating a game that meets those needs. They are the ones who are responsible for creating a game that is fun and engaging for the players.
Analysts
Analysts are the game designers who are responsible for analyzing the game. They are the ones who are responsible for understanding the game mechanics, the game balance, and the overall design of the game. They are the ones who are responsible for making sure the game is balanced and fun to play.
