The Six Pillars of Good Character
Good character is an important part of being a successful person. It helps us to be respected by others and to make positive contributions to our communities. The Six Pillars of Good Character are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Trustworthiness is being honest and reliable. It means that you can be trusted to do what you say you will do and to keep your promises. It also means that you don’t take or use things that don’t belong to you.
Respect is showing consideration for the feelings, wishes, rights, and property of others. It means treating others the way you would like to be treated.
Responsibility is being dependable and doing what you are supposed to do. It means taking care of yourself and your belongings, and doing your best to do what is expected of you.
Fairness is treating everyone the same, regardless of their differences. It means being honest and open-minded, and not taking advantage of others.
Caring is showing kindness and concern for others. It means being understanding and compassionate, and helping those in need.
Citizenship is taking part in the life of your community. It means being involved in activities that make your community a better place to live.
These Six Pillars of Good Character can help young people to be successful in life. They can use the mnemonic device “TRRFCC” to help them remember the pillars: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
